Each line leads to a page that explains how that job is done here and what to tell us when you ring.

Why Elda is its own job

A town built by the shoe trade, and the doors that came with it

Elda has around 55,000 people and has made shoes, women’s shoes above all, since the nineteenth century. The trade shaped where people live. Whole estates of flats went up in the fifties and sixties for the families who came to work in it. San Francisco de Sales alone has 580 homes built between 1956 and 1968, and Las Trescientas and the Virgen de la Cabeza group date from the same years. If your flat is in one of those blocks and its door has never been changed, the lock is probably as old as the building, and that is where a new cylinder for the door makes the biggest difference.

The old town is different again: narrow, winding streets climbing towards the castle, whose surroundings are now being rebuilt. Then there is Petrer, which has grown into Elda so completely that the two make one town of nearly 87,000 people. Beyond them are the chalets of the hillsides and the country houses out towards Monóvar and Pinoso, where almost a quarter of the residents are foreign nationals and the British are the largest group. Gates, sheds and grilles on those properties have their own page.

The quarters and towns covered are on the coverage page.

From the call to the door

How a job goes, start to finish

  1. You ring or send a WhatsApp

Say which town and quarter, the street, the floor, and what the lock is doing. A photo of the keyhole helps.

  2. You get a realistic time

Worked out for your address at that moment, so you can decide whether to wait. No website figure, because there honestly isn’t one.

  3. The price is agreed at the door

Once the lock has been seen, and before any tool touches it. You can say no at that point.

  4. The door is opened or the lock is fixed

Through the lock wherever the lock allows. If anything has to be drilled, you are asked first.

Outside a door right now? The emergency line covers what to say in the first minute. Shut out of the car instead? That is a car lockout, which is opening only.

Questions

Asked before people pick up the phone

Will someone understand me if I ring in English?

Yes. The phone is answered in English and in Spanish, and the same goes for WhatsApp messages and email. If a neighbour or the building’s administrator needs to be part of the conversation in Spanish, that works too.

I live in Petrer, or out towards Pinoso. Is that too far?

No. Petrer, Monóvar, Pinoso, Salinas, Novelda, Aspe and Monforte del Cid are all covered, as well as every part of Elda. On the phone you get an honest idea of when someone can reach your address.

Can I get a copy of my front door key from you?

No. This business does not cut, copy or duplicate keys of any kind, and does not supply or program car keys. For a copy, a key-cutting shop is the place to go. What we do is open doors, cars and safes, and repair, change and upgrade locks.

How do I pay, and when is the price fixed?

The price is agreed with you at the door, once the lock has been seen and before any work starts. Payment is by cash, card or Bizum.

Is there a shop I can call into?

No. This is a mobile service: the workshop travels in the van, so there is no counter to visit. Phone, WhatsApp or email, and the work comes to you.

A door, a gate or a safe that will not open?

Ring, or send a WhatsApp with where you are and a photo of the lock.
